I wanted to thank STEPS personally because switching over to Steps for my son has really changed our lives. I know that sounds over the top, but we have had a rough year with him. We have always homeschooled but this year chose a virtual academy because I was tired of spending a fortune on curriculum and still feeling unsatisfied. He started having major issues and we were on edge all the time. Earlier this year we pulled him and a friend had recommended Steps so we thought we would give it a try. HE LOVES IT!! We haven’t fought over school since we started and he even will talk about what he has read and thought about when we are just out and about. Thank you, thank you, thank you! - S.S.D., Homeschool Parent
_____
History for Step 3 students, ages 9-10 who read fairly well, and older students still developing literacy.
Bloody wars and the rise of new national powers, as the Dark Ages slowly wind down. The Vikings, Charlemagne, the development of feudalism and chivalry...a remarkable period in history!
Focused around the first Newberry Prize award-winning children's book, Van Loon's The Story of Mankind , those sections of Van Loon's book required for study are included in the course.
The course specializes, as do all STEPS courses, in developing the students understandings and ability to think and form their own ideas and opinions. Additionally, as with all our history courses, this one is structured to increase the student's vocabulary and understanding of geography, as well as of history.
22 lessons, plus three tests and answer guides.
Subjects covered in this course include:
- Charlemagne (Charles the Great), and his efforts to build an Empire in Europe
