A Creative Writing /History Unit celebrating freedom throughout the world. There are some 200 nations on Earth, and many of them celebrate a version of "Independence Day". Few things are more important in a nation's history than winning independence and the right of self-rule. This course helps the student discover his nation's story.
But freedom is investigated in this course beyond that of nations. The purpose of nations – to protect and support the efforts of the individual – is thoroughly investigated in a historical context. We learn from history through this course that only when nations experiencing independence grant that same freedom of purpose and action to individuals, does the nation and mankind flourish.
After learning about the basic history of civilization itself, and about the nature of freedom and independence, the student researches their own nation's Independence Day.
Then the student is walked through the steps taken to write two short stories about Independence Day. They learn (or review) the most essential skills and concepts behind creative writing. Eighteen big lesson plans. The perfect way to make your Independence Day both global and creative!
