My daughter has friends who are public schooled and home schooled. All her friends made positive comments on her (Steps) course.  One of her public schooled friends asks every visit to see what is new in the science notebook.  She says my daughter “gets to learn so much more” than she ever learns. K.O., Homeschool Mom

Science for Step 4 students, ages 11-adult.

A comprehensive, highly creative course covering key theories and concepts of chemistry, without any serious mathematics. A homeschool course presenting college-level materials, using Steps powerful learning tools to make fully understandable the detailed concepts, theories and practices of one of the most complex sciences of our day, opening the door to real understanding for younger students.

The full scientific story of the atom, sub-atomic particles, and how these combine to create the universe we live in. Start your discovery of this vibrant, living science today! The course is self-contained, and no text book is needed. Tests, and answer guides are included!

What are the building blocks of the physical universe? What, per science, is matter? What is energy? How does matter and energy function? What is soil, water, air? What is gold, silver, uranium? What is an atom, how is one structured, and what do atoms do?

Chemistry is the study of the basic building blocks of the Physical Universe. This comprehensive course covers atomic theory in detail. It covers the various ways atoms bond to create all physical things. The course explains solids, liquids, gases, and kinetics. Detailed, but with practical and fun exercises which help make chemistry interesting and "real" for the student, and with the math of chemistry de-emphasized in favor of a conceptual understanding. A full semester. This course requires no additional materials.

Covered in this course:

  • What is Chemistry?
  • What is an atom?
  • How an attom is constructed
  • What is an element?
  • The Periodic Table
  • What is an isotope?
  • Density
  • Solids, Liquids and Gases
  • Chemistry as used in everyday life
  • Radioactivity
  • Construction of new atoms and molecule
  • Compounds
  • The Mole
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Acids and Bases
  • Solutions
  • Commercial and other uses of chemistry

Just wanted to say thanks once again! My DS14 has gone from 'hating' school science to now being fascinated and actually considering aiming for a career in zoology eventually! For a kid who had no goals at all as far as further education he's now excited when he talks about working with animals in the future. Your science curriculum has shown him that science doesn't need to be boring and dry. We now have big long discussions about all kinds of scientific theories and chemical reactions

I really learned a lot on this course. I also had fun on it. I especially started winning at this course toward the end where I learned more about science than I ever could have in public school. This is a great course and I can't wait to start the next one!  C.G., Student, Age 12

Before I didn't really like doing science, so I was falling behind. Now I love science and it is so much fun. I get a lot done and I will be one of the first to finish! This curriculum is so awesome, you get so much more out of it than you would with anything else.   J.C., 15 year-old student
